Data science is key to addressing national challenges with greater agility. At the EPA, the prime challenge is to provide the best value to American citizens in an ever-changing world. Robin Thottungal explains how the EPA addresses this challenge through digital and analytical services that enable greater responsiveness and increase predictive capabilities. The digital transformation has shifted the EPA beyond business as usual, which is critical for the health of citizens and of the environment. Robin discusses how this digital transformation has become the driver behind a better understanding of the complex interdependencies between our air, water, land, and public health, using emerging technology strategies such as microservices-based architecture and user-centered design to better capture the relationships and detect anomalies in the terabytes of data that the EPA takes in each year.
