In November 2017, MEF introduced MEF 3.0, a transformational framework for defining, delivering, and certifying agile, assured, and orchestrated communication services across a global ecosystem of automated networks. MEF 3.0 is the next step in MEF’s journey to transform the industry with services and networks that are easy to manage and monetize and that deliver lasting value to customers. In this talk we will introduce the major elements of MEF 3.0 and explain their significance to the community and the market. We will also describe two recent POCs instantiating MEF 3.0 with ONAP. One showed the establishment of an end-to-end enterprise service across two continents using two service providers, each with its own ONAP instance and implementation of the MEF LSO APIs. The second POC showed the establishment of an end-to-end enterprise service across two continents using two service providers and a cloud data center. In this POC only one of the operators deployed an ONAP instance; the other did not, but the MEF LSO APIs enabled the successful concatenation of the orchestration frameworks to achieve a consistent, end-end service.
