Knative is a new open source collaboration between Google and a number of industry leaders to define a set of building blocks for building, deploying, and managing serverless workloads on Kubernetes. Knative solves the difficult but boring aspects of running modern cloud applications on Kubernetes, providing components that reduce developer and operator toil (e.g., source to container, rollout under load, autoscaling to and from zero, and connecting to eventing ecosystems). Knative codifies industry best practices into tools you can use anywhere Kubernetes runs. Ryan Gregg offers an overview of the Knative project and its three building blocks (build, serving, and eventing) and highlights some of the key benefits developers and operators can expect by adopting Knative or a platform based on Knative.
