The cloud is an important component of modern enterprise data systems. Sharing data between on-premises and cloud storage remains the biggest challenge in hybrid cloud deployments. The limited replication capabilities built into cloud object stores and the Hadoop HDFS filesystem restricts the types of solutions that can be built. An additional complication is the eventual consistent nature of cloud object stores and their built-in replication capabilities. Jagane Sundar shares a superior alternative, a strongly consistent replication service for replicating between cloud object stores, HDFS, NFS, and other S3- and Hadoop-compatible filesystems. Replication is performed across the WAN, with no distance limitations. Most importantly, replicated storage in all data centers is simultaneously writable. This replication service employs Paxos, the only mathematically proven algorithm for distributed coordination. Available as a service, this replication capability offers the best RPO and RTO possible. This session is sponsored by WANDisco.
