Absa, together with other banks and financial institutions within SAFBC (South Africa Financial Blockchain Consortium), is building a self-sovereign identity solution for people in South Africa. Our first goal is to reduce the costs of a repeating KYC process. We want to provide users an identity wallet as a mobile app, which they can use for verifying their identity. Then we will issue them a digital identity credential, which they can re-use for communication with Absa or other companies. Our solution is built with Hyperledger Indy/Aries and we would love to share what we’ve done so far and what was our experience with these technologies. What went well, what wasn’t so good and also what we’re planning for the future.
