For decades, CLI remained as a dominated method for humans to communicate with devices. The next wave was GUI, GUI is mainly comprised on point, click and type input. Last decade with the emergence of smartphones telecom industry witnessed touch, swipe and voice as new interfaces. XR takes us into a new era of interfacing and enables talking to the devices using gestures. This talk explores how XR technologies are going to change the way we operate in a service provider domain. Ali covers TELUS’s use of Augmented Reality (AR) open resources along with open networking tools to enhance the installation process, training, inventory ordering, predictive inspections, maintenance and audit. Moreover, the talk discusses the challenges in using XR ubiquitously, including: insufficient network latency, lack of killer applications, device cost and limited use of technology-ready XR devices.
