In this talk, Richard and Bill present real-world edge solutions, exploring motivations, challenges and opportunities faced by manufacturing operations in extending visibility from the dark edge into their critical operations. Outside direct automation and control, visibility through additional sensing helps to significantly inform and enhance manufacturing planning, execution and operation.They will look at both architectural, technical and organizational challenges faced in these use cases and how existing open source software helped frame solutions and deliver value. By highlighting a number of real world solutions they want to inspire decision makers in manufacturing to leverage solutions available today, accelerating adoption; and to encourage the open source community to focus their efforts and solutions on delivering real value today while paving a path for the future.
