As an industry, we have a long history of building abstraction layers upon which we build great things. But sometimes they get in the way. Kyle Anderson surveys some of the biggest abstraction layers we’ve built, analyzing how they might have gotten in our way and looking at some attempts to squash them. Then he turns to Kubernetes, Mesos, containers, VMS, and functions to evaluate how those abstraction layers fit into the bigger picture and how they might be squashed in the future. Join in to better understand how what you build fits into the bigger picture, with a gentle reminder that not to build abstraction for abstraction’s sake.
