Service providers need Analytics and Intelligence, Software Control and Automation, and Programmable Infrastructure to manage the transition to the Adaptive Network. A common requirement will be the use of open interfaces to express capabilities, state intent and allow access to data in a multi-domain, multi-vendor environment. The ONF, in coordination with other industry bodies, is playing a key role in developing an infrastructure for the definition of model-driven, machine-oriented open APIs for SDN control of service provider networks. As part of its Adaptive Network vision, Ciena leads industry efforts to create open APIs using automated specification and code generation and avoiding the need for manual protocol definition. This talk will describe ONF common information modeling, associated tooling and work on the Transport API, considering both current capability and future directions.
