The advent of 5G in Telco industry will change the momentum of Telco industry and millions of end users. 5G brings the possibility of virtualizing the Radio Access Network and running in an Edge cloud. Applications that will ride on 5G such as IOT, Augmented reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) will bring additional use cases to host applications at the Edge and these use cases were not addressed in the traditional data center cloud deployments. The additional use cases include thin deployments (2-3 servers), large-scale (10K plus locations), zero touch provisioning, support for GPU, etc., We have explored several architecture options to run edge applications and Virtual Network Functions (VNFs) at the Edge and developed a full edge solution using Kubernetes, OpenStack, and ONAP, etc., In this talk, we will share our insights of edge computing and open source edge solution.
