Open contrail is an open source SDN controller which natively integrates with openstack and ideally suitable for any Service provide who wants to virtualize network infrastructure. I would discuss and present how AT&T is using opencontrail to virtualize network infrastructure including load balancers, firewalls, proxies, content optimization, deep packet inspection, routers, route reflectors and 3GPP mobility elements with opencontrail. Contail is very scalable, reliable SDN controller which is capable to meet all strict requirements for capacity and throughput in Service Provider network. First I would explain basics about opencontrail. How it’s using MPLS/BGP principles and can be easily integrated with openstack and already existing MPLS network. I would provide explanation how opencontrail is used to provide policy routing or service chaining. Service chaining is a very common use case when traffic is routed based on configured policies. Contrail is doing it in very efficient way and can perform a dynamic policy routing also. I would provide details how open contrail can do very unique things for Service Provider network like 802.1Q trunking, dscp marking and support for NFV with DPDK and Huge Pages. We will look at the specific cases for SDN controller in the Service Provider Network. How Virtual Machine can establish BGP session, advertise routing information and provide redundancy with high availability. I would finish my presentation with lessons for networking which we learned in virtualizing network and deploying opencontrail at scale in AT&T network.
