The internet that we know today emerged organically in terms of its scale and its ability to deliver increasingly compelling experiences. Using statistics about internet traffic patterns and growth from the past decade as a backdrop, Corey Scobie shares insights as to how and why edge computing clouds are so critical to the success of builders of scalable apps. Backed by 15 years of data that has been compiled and shared with the community at large from Akamai’s quarterly State of the Internet report and other public sources, Corey explains that the traditional compartmentalization of foundational internet technology and application development will not sustain our aspirations going forward. Replacing broadcast TV with OTT, carrying global events to billions of users simultaneously, and the increasingly hostile digital threat landscape will all require a much more coordinated approach for how to fuse infrastructure and software (platforms) into the internet of the future. This keynote is sponsored by Akamai.
