Roopa Tangirala details Netflix’s migration from Oracle to Cassandra, covering the problems encountered, what worked and what didn’t, and lessons learned along the way so that others can learn from it. Roopa offers a brief history of Netflix and explains Netflix’s previous set up with Oracle before discussing the migration to Cassandra. Roopa explores why Netflix chose C* and outlines the migration strategy (from RDBMS to C*) and the challenges the team faced (DC and cloud), before giving real-life data model examples and lessons learned.
