“Dating a film” is a film industry expression. It describes the business process behind the selection of a film’s theatrical release date. What once was a purely “gut feeling” decision, is now treated as a data science problem. It’s an interesting one too. Many key challenges that are applicable to other industries (e.g. small industry, data in silos, data confidentiality, id matching, AB testing, challenges, job security issues) need to be overcome before the first data science team hire is made. Or should this function be outsourced? Trust Fall: How do you train senior execs to trust analytics derived by machine learning and integrate them to their decision making process?
